LRSEF Students Named to Top 300 Thermo Fisher Junior Innovators Challenge

Four LRSEF students were named to the top 300 competitors in the 2024 Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge (JIC) — the nation’s premier STEM competition for middle school students. The Thermo Fisher JIC seeks to inspire young scientists, engineers and innovators to solve the world’s most intractable challenges.

  • ELENA KEELEY-FINE (GRADE 8) – Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic School
    Exploring Plastic Leachate Effects on Learning and Memory 
  • VERA NAIDU (GRADE 7) – Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic School
    Improving a Medical Robot with Haptics and a High-Resolution IR Camera
  • OWEN THOMAS MCGEENEY PARK (GRADE 6) – Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic School
    Exploring Regolith-Metal Static Attraction in a Martian Atmosphere

These students were selected from 1,862 entrants nationally. 30 finalists will be chosen from this select pool to compete for more than $100,000 in awards and prizes. Finalists will be announced September 18. Learn more and see the full top 300 list.
