Student poses with Thermo Fisher Junior Innovators Challenge Certificate

LRSEF student Maylin Kidwell of Noe Middle School was named one of 300 finalists in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge, a nationwide science, technology, engineering and math competition for middle school students. The Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge, a program of Society for Science, seeks to inspire young scientists, engineers and innovators to solve the grand challenges of the 21st century.

The Top 300 Junior Innovators were selected from nearly 2,000 students across the nations. Each of the Top 300 Junior Innovators will receive a $125 award from DoD STEM.

Maylin was selected for her project, Precision Through Randomness: A Physical Demonstration of Using Noise To Improve Measurements.

Thermo Fisher was named the title sponsor of the Society’s middle school competition in August 2022. The competition was previously sponsored by Broadcom Foundation and known as Broadcom MASTERS. View the full list of finalists.

The top 30 were recently announced. LRSEF will host the Junior Innovators Challenge again in 2024 where the top 10% of middle school students will be nominated to compete.
